Dosage & Administration
- Oral tablet administration
- Prevention of scurvy: 1 tablet daily
- Treatment of scurvy: 1-2 tablets daily

- Maximum safe dose: 2000 mg daily
Parenteral administration
- Vitamin C is usually administered orally
- IM, IV, or subcutaneous administration for malabsorption
- Utilization is best after IM administration
- Intravenous injection recommended to be diluted into a large volume parenteral
- Average protective dose for adults: 70 to 150 mg daily
- In the presence of scurvy, doses of 300 mg to 1 g daily
- Doses of 300 to 500 mg daily for wound healing
- Daily doses of 1 to 2 g are recommended for severe burns
- Parenteral products should be visually inspected prior to administration
Interaction
- Potentially hazardous interactions with specific medications
- Increases apparent half-life of paracetamol
- Enhances iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract

Precautions & Warnings
- Ingestion of megadose during pregnancy has resulted in neonatal scurvy
- Contraindicated for patients with hyperoxaluria
- Can give rise to false positive reactions in certain analytical tests
