Description
Montison 10 mg Tablet is indicated for prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB), and relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR) including seasonal & perennial AR. It works by inhibiting the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor, thereby improving airway function and maintaining open airways. The tablet is available in 10 mg strength for adults and adolescents, and in 5 mg and 4 mg strength for pediatric patients. It is advised to be stored in a cool & dry place below 30°C, protected from light & moisture.
Dosage & Administration
- 10 mg tablet once daily for adults and adolescents 15 years of age and older
- 5 mg tablet once daily for pediatric patients 6 to 14 years of age
- 4 mg tablet or oral granules once daily for pediatric patients 2 years to 5 years of age, and 6 months to 5 years of age
- No dosage adjustment required for hepatic or renal insufficiency
- Similar pharmacokinetic profile in elderly and younger adults
Interaction
No clinically important effects observed with concomitant use of other therapies routinely used in asthma treatment, including theophylline, prednisone, prednisolone, oral contraceptives, terfenadine, digoxin, and warfarin. However, caution is recommended when used with potent cytochrome P450 enzyme inducers such as phenobarbital or rifampin.
Side Effects
- Common: Diarrhoea, fever, gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, nausea, vomiting, skin reactions, upper respiratory tract infection
- Uncommon: Akathisia, anxiety, arthralgia, asthenia, abnormal behavior, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, haemorrhage, irritability, malaise, muscle complaints, oedema, seizure, abnormal sensation, sleep disorders
- Rare: Angioedema, concentration impaired, disorientation, hepatic disorders, memory loss, palpitations, pulmonary eosinophilia, suicidal tendencies, tremor
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy should be avoided unless clearly needed. Caution should be exercised when given to a nursing mother.
Precautions & Warnings
- Not for use in the reversal of bronchospasm in acute asthma attacks
- Have appropriate rescue medication available
- Do not abruptly substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids
- Not for monotherapy in the treatment of exercise induced bronchospasm
- Caution in known aspirin sensitivity
