Dosage

  • 80 mg/12.5 mg once daily

Pharmacology & Mode of Action

  • Telmisartan: selective AT1 receptor blocker
  • Vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-inhibiting effects
  • No inhibition of ACE or binding to other hormone receptors
  • Hydrochlorothiazide: thiazide diuretic affecting electrolyte reabsorption

Interaction & Contraindications

  • Caution with aliskiren, digoxin, lithium, other high blood pressure medicines
  • Interference with certain laboratory tests
  • Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity
  • Do not co-administer with Aliskiren in patients with Diabetes

  • Precaution while driving or using machinery
  • Consultation before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes

Use in Special Populations

Overdose Effects

  • Manifestations include hypertension, dizziness, tachycardia, bradycardia, electrolyte imbalances, dehydration
  • Telmisartan is not removed by hemodialysis
  • Degree of hydrochlorothiazide removal by hemodialysis not established
