Indications
- Reduces blood sugar levels
- Used in type 2 diabetes Mellitus in adults
Pharmacology
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic β-cells
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 40 to 80 mg daily
- Dose can be increased up to 320 mg daily
- Recommended daily dose for modified release preparation is one to four tablets
Interaction
- May interact with other medicines to treat high blood sugar, fungal infections, depression, painkillers, and alcohol
Contraindications
- Not to be taken in case of insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1)
- Not recommended for severe kidney or liver disease
Side Effects
- Commonly observed side effect is low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
- May cause liver, skin, blood, digestive, and eye disorders
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
