Indications
- Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia
- Adjunct in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, akinetic and myoclonic seizures
- Treatment of absence seizures (petit mal) in patients who have failed to respond to succinimides
Pharmacology
- Exhibits anticonvulsive, sedative, muscle relaxing, and anxiolytic effects
- Enhances GABAergic neurotransmission at inhibitory synapses
- Suppression of various types of paroxysmal activity
Dosage & Administration
- Initial and maintenance doses for adults with seizure disorders
- Initial dose and target dose for adults with panic disorder
- Initial dose for pediatric patients
Interaction
- No alteration of the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, carbamazepine, or phenobarbital
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
- Clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease
- Acute narrow angle glaucoma
Side Effects
- Frequent CNS depression
- Occurrence of drowsiness, ataxia, behavior problems, abnormal eye movements, and more
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Potential to produce congenital malformations
- Epidemiological reports on teratogenic effects of anticonvulsant drugs
- Possible passage of the active ingredient into maternal milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased incidence or onset of generalized tonic-clonic seizures in certain patients
- Concomitant use with valproic acid may produce absence status
Use in Special Populations
- Increased production of saliva and bronchial secretion in infants and small children
- Greater pharmacologic effects in elderly patients
- No dose adjustment required in patients with renal impairment

- Common symptoms such as drowsiness, ataxia, and dysarthria
- Monitoring of vital signs and symptomatic treatment for cardiorespiratory effects
