Indications
- Treatment of acute uncomplicated influenza in patients 12 years of age and older
- Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) of influenza in patients 12 years of age and older
Pharmacology
- Antiviral polymerase endonuclease inhibitor
- Film-coated tablet for oral administration
- Active component: Baloxavir Marboxil
Dosage & Administration
- Take a single dose orally within 48 hours of symptom onset
- Dosage based on patient's weight
- Pediatric use: established for patients 12 years and older weighing at least 40 kg
Interaction
Avoid coadministration with dairy products, calcium-fortified beverages, polyvalent cation-containing laxatives, antacids, or oral supplements
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Baloxavir Marboxil or any of its ingredients
Side Effects
- Reported adverse events: diarrhea, bronchitis, nausea, sinusitis, headache
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Risks associated with influenza virus infection in pregnancy
- No data on presence in human milk or effects on the breastfed infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions: initiate appropriate treatment
- Risk of bacterial infection: Xofluza has not been shown to prevent such complications
