  • Neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN)
  • Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN)
  • Adjunctive therapy for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in patients 1 month of age and older

  • Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury

Pharmacology

Structural derivative of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)

Maximum Recommended Dosage

  • Neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN): 300 mg/day
  • Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN): 300 mg/day
  • Fibromyalgia: 450 mg/day
  • Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury: 600 mg/day

Administration

  • Route: Oral
  • Special Instructions: Pregabalin CR tablet should be administered after an evening meal

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to Pregabalin or any of its components

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy: Potential risk to a fetus, no adequate and well-controlled studies
  • Lactation: Small amounts detected in the milk, not recommended

Precautions & Warnings

  • Angioedema may occur and require immediate discontinuation
  • Increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior
  • Respiratory depression may occur with concomitant CNS depressants
  • May cause dizziness and somnolence, impairing ability to drive or operate machinery
  • Withdrawal should be gradual over a minimum of 1 week

Overdose Effects

Reduced consciousness, depression/anxiety, confusional state, agitation, restlessness, seizures, heart block

Unlikely to be involved in significant pharmacokinetic drug interactions
