Indications
- Nosocomial pneumonia
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections including diabetic foot infections
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections
Pharmacology
Synthetic antibacterial agent belonging to a new class of antibiotics with in vitro activity against Gram positive aerobic bacteria, some Gram positive anaerobic bacteria, and certain Gram negative bacteria.
Dosage & Administration
- Infection:
- Nosocomial pneumonia
- Community-acquired pneumonia including concurrent bacteremia
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Dosage & Frequency:
- Pediatric patients: 10 mg/kg orally or intravenously every 8 hours
- Adults and adolescents: 600 mg orally or intravenously every 12 hours
- Duration of Treatment:
- 10 to 14 days for nosocomial pneumonia and 14 to 28 days for complicated skin and skin structure infections
Interaction
- Drug interaction with medication: Reversible, nonselective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase. Potential for interaction with adrenergic and serotonergic agents.
- Drug interaction with food and others: Advice patients to avoid large quantities of foods or beverages with high tyramine content while taking Lizid.
Contraindications
Contraindicated for patients with known hypersensitivity to Linezolid or any of the other product components.

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus.
- Lactation: Linezolid is present in breast milk. Consider developmental and health benefits of breastfeeding along with the mother’s clinical need for linezolid.
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor complete blood counts weekly in patients receiving Lizid for longer than two weeks
- Prompt ophthalmic evaluation if symptoms of visual impairment occur
- Not approved for catheter-related bloodstream infections
- Monitor for potential increases in blood pressure
- Immediate medical evaluation for recurrent nausea or vomiting, unexplained acidosis, or low bicarbonate level
Overdose Effects
No reported cases of overdose. Symptomatic and supportive care is advised.

Reconstitution
- Oral Suspension: Shake the bottle to loosen powder. Add boiled and cooled water to the dry mixture in the bottle. Shake well before use. Store reconstituted suspension in a cool and dry place and use within 21 days.
- Intravenous Administration: Administer by intravenous infusion over a period of 30 to 120 minutes. Store at room temperature.
Storage Conditions
Store at room temperature (15-30°C), away from light and moisture.
