Description
- Calcium and Vitamin D3 supplement for bone health
- Used for osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disease
- Can be used as a routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure
Dosage
- Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 200 IU Tablet: 2 tablets daily or 1 tablet twice daily
- Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 400 IU Tablet: 1 tablet twice daily
- Best taken with or just after a meal to improve absorption
Indications
- Treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, parathyroid disease
- Ensuring adequate dietary intake in conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, osteogenesis, and tooth formation
- Used in therapy with anti-seizure medications
- Phosphate binder in chronic renal failure
Mode of Action
- Preparation of Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)
- Calcium necessary for bone formation and maintenance
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption and reabsorption of Calcium, stimulates bone formation
- Helps in bone growth and prevention of osteoporosis and bone fracture
Interactions
- Possible interaction with calcium, aluminum, or magnesium-containing antacids and other calcium supplements
- Interaction with calcitriol and other vitamin D3 supplements
- Interaction with digoxin, tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or oxytetracycline
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in hypercalcaemia, hyperthyroidism, renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
