Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
Pharmacology
- Binds to and stabilizes the inactive form of the H1 receptor
- Prevents histamine activation and downstream effects
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
Dosage and Administration
- Adults and children 12 years and older: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily
- In case of impaired renal function: dosage adjustments required
Interaction
- Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole increases fexofenadine levels in plasma
- No interaction observed with omeprazole
- Administration with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide reduces bioavailability
