Description
- Kitocos is a potent analgesic used for short-term management of acute post-operative pain. It is an ophthalmic solution that relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery. It belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAIDs.
Indication
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreasing eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Pharmacology
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage and administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use (up to 7 days), not recommended for chronic use
- Injection: Single or multiple doses for moderately severe, acute pain management, with specific dosing guidance for different patient populations
- Eye Drops: Recommended administration of 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interactions
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
