Description
- Treatment of bone loss (osteoporosis)

- Ensuring adequate Calcium and Vitamin D3 in conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, post-menopausal osteoporosis, senile osteoporosis, drug-induced osteoporosis
Composition
- 500 mg & 200 IU: Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP (eggshell source) 1250 mg equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) BP 200 IU
- 600 mg & 400 IU: Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP (eggshell source) 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) BP 400 IU
Mode of Action
Calcium plays a crucial role in bone, nerve cells, muscle, and vital organs' functioning, while Vitamin D3 aids in Calcium absorption for building and maintaining strong bones and healthy muscles
Dosage & Administration
Oral administration: one tablet in the morning and one tablet at night or as directed by a physician; use in children and adolescents should be directed by a physician
Interactions
- Medicine:
- Possible interactions with digoxin, antacids containing Calcium, aluminum or magnesium, other Calcium supplements, calcitriol, tetracycline, doxycycline, aminocycline or oxytetracycline
- Consultation with physicians needed while taking Calcium tablet with any of these drugs
- Food & Others: The intestinal uptake of Calcium may be reduced by concomitant ingestion of certain foods (e.g. spinach, milk, and milk products)
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Concomitant digoxin therapy (requires careful monitoring of serum Calcium level)
Side Effects
- Common:
- Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may cause irritation to the gastrointestinal tract and constipation
- Eggshell Calcium is safe for long-term use without causing any gastrointestinal discomfort or constipation
- Rare:
- Kidney stone, hypercalcemia, alkalosis, loss of appetite
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use as directed by the physician during Pregnancy and Lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Discontinuation of the drug is required when hypercalcemia occurs; patients with a history of kidney stone formation should increase their fluid intake
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, diarrhea, weakness, headache, irritability, or dizziness
