Olmevas HZ 40 mg+12.5 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of hypertension

Pharmacology

• Olmesartan blocks vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin-II
• Hydrochlorothiazide affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage & Administration

• Usual starting dose of 20/12.5 mg once daily
• May be titrated to 40/25 mg once daily based on blood pressure response

Interaction

• No significant drug interactions reported for Olmesartan
• Interaction with thiazide diuretics including alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics, antidiabetic drugs, other antihypertensive drugs, corticosteroids, lithium

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
• Anuria
• Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs

• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Urinary tract infection
• Chest pain
• Back pain
• Peripheral edema
• Abdominal pain
• Dyspepsia

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Safety and effectiveness not established
• Drug should be discontinued during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Periodic determination of serum electrolytes
• Risk of hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypochloremic alkalosis
• Hyperuricemia in certain patients
• Impaired renal function

Use in Special Populations

• Not recommended for renal impairment patients with creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
• No dosage adjustment necessary for hepatic impairment
• Safety and effectiveness not established for pediatric use
• Caution in dose selection for geriatric patients

Overdose Effects

• Olmesartan overdose may lead to hypotension and tachycardia
• Hydrochlorothiazide overdose may cause electrolyte depletion and dehydration
