Indications

Pharmacology

  • Proton pump inhibitor
  • Suppression of gastric acid secretion
  • Specific inhibition of H+/K+-ATPase
  • Better acid control
  • Enteric-coated pellet formulation
  • Peak plasma levels occur at approximately 1.5 hours

Dosage

  • Oral dosage form
  • Healing of Erosive Esophagitis: 20 mg or 40 mg Once Daily for 4-8 Weeks
  • Symptomatic GERD: 20 mg Once Daily for 4 Weeks
  • IV Injection or IV infusion for GERD with Erosive Esophagitis
  • Pediatric Patients dosing based on body weight
  • Risk reduction of rebleeding of Gastric or Duodenal Ulcers in adults
  • Dosage for Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, Acid-related Dyspepsia, and Duodenal ulcer

Administration

  • Tablet or capsule should be swallowed whole
  • Oral Suspension should be taken as per instructions
  • IV Injection: Intravenously over a period of at least 3 minutes

Interaction

  • Extensive metabolism in the liver
  • Inhibition of CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 by Esoxium
  • Potential interference with the absorption of certain drugs
  • Combination Therapy with Clarithromycin elevates plasma levels

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation

  • Guidance for patients with difficulty swallowing capsules

  • No overall differences in safety and efficacy in geriatric use
  • No dosage adjustment recommended for mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency
