Indications
- Peptic ulcer diseases
- Gastroesophageal reflux diseases
- Ulcer induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibiotics)
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Pharmacology
- Proton pump inhibitor
- Suppression of final step in gastric acid production
- Covalent binding to H+/K+ATPase enzyme system
- Inhibition of both basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Benign gastric ulcer: 40 mg daily in the morning for 4 weeks
- Duodenal ulcer: 40 mg daily in the morning for 2 weeks
- Prophylaxis of NSAID-associated gastric or duodenal ulcer: 20 mg daily
- IV Injection for duodenal ulcer and gastruc ulcer: 40 mg once daily for 7-10 days
- Long-term management of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome and other hypersecretory conditions: 80 mg IV every 12 hours

No significant drug interactions observed in clinical studies

Hypersensitivity to any components of the formulation
Side Effects
- Well tolerated in both short-term and long-term treatment
- Common: headache, diarrhea
- Rare: abdominal pain, flatulence, rash, insomnia, hyperglycemia
Pregnancy & Lactation
US FDA Pregnancy Category B. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings
- Tablet should not be split, chewed, or crushed
- Long-term therapy may lead to malabsorption of Vitamin B12 or increase risk of osteoporosis related disorders
Overdose Effects
- No known symptoms of overdosage in humans
- Not readily dialyzable due to high protein binding
