Medicine Details

Indications

  • Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
  • Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria

Pharmacology

  • H1 histamine receptor mediator
  • Fexofenadine as an 'inverse agonist' of the H1 receptor
  • Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors

Dosage & Administration

  • 60 mg twice daily for adults and children 12 years and older
  • 30 mg twice daily for children from 6 to 11 years
  • 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily for children from 2 to 11 years
  • 180 mg once daily for allergic rhinitis in adults
  • 120 mg once daily for chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults
  • Suspension: 15 mg or 2.5 ml twice daily for children from 6 months to less than 2 years
  • Suspension: 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily for children from 2 to 11 years

Interaction

  • Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole
  • No interaction with omeprazole
  • Reduction in bioavailability when coadministered with antacids

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or its ingredients
