Side Effects
- Mega-doses may cause diarrhea, abdominal bloating, iron over-absorption, hyperoxaluria, hyperuricosuria, and harm to certain specific conditions; high doses in pregnant women may cause fetal abortion
Pregnancy & Lactation
Safe in normal doses for pregnant women and during lactation, but high daily intake may cause abortion in pregnant women
Precautions & Warnings
- Ingestion of megadose during pregnancy can result in scurvy in neonates
- Mega-doses have been contraindicated for patients with hyperoxaluria
- Can give rise to false positive reactions in certain analytical tests for glucose, uric acid, creatine, and occult blood
