Scabicon Plus 5%+10% (Lotion)

Indications

• Treatment of scabies
• Treatment of pruritus

Pharmacology

• Permethrin is a pyrethroid pediculocide and scabicide
• Crotamiton has scabicidal and antipruritic action against Sarcoptes scabei

Dosage

• Suitable for adults, children of 2 months of age and above, and the elderly
• For external use only
• Single application over the whole body
• Left on for at least 8 hours
• Wash thoroughly 8-12 hours after application

Administration

• Applied to clean, dry skin
• Body should be allowed to cool if hot
• Not applied to the head
• Cloths and bed sheets should be cleaned with warm water

Interaction

• Treatment of eczematous-like reactions with corticosteroids should be withheld prior to treatment with permethrin

Contraindications

• Contra-indicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to permethrin or crotamiton

Side Effects

• Occasional reports of burning or stinging sensation
• Transient signs and symptoms of skin irritation

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first three months
• Nursing mothers should avoid applying it in the area of the nipples

Precautions & Warnings

• For external use only
• Avoid contact with the eyes
• Nursing staff may wish to wear gloves to avoid any possible irritation to the hand

Overdose Effects

• Excessive application to the skin might result in local adverse reactions
• Gastric lavage should be considered if within 2 hours of ingestion in case of accidental ingestion by a child

• Store in a cool place (not above 25°C and protected from light)
