Description

Rosustat is a medication used to treat conditions such as primary hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia, hypertriglyceredemia, dysbetalipoproteinemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, risk reduction of myocardial infarction and stroke, and as an adjunct to diet therapy.

Selective and competitive HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor

Lipid-Modifying Effects

  • Increases hepatic LDL receptors
  • Inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL and LDL particles

Indications

  • Reduces elevated total-C, LDL-C, ApoB, non HDL-C, and TG levels
  • Increases HDL-C
  • Slows the progression of atherosclerosis
  • Risk reduction of myocardial infarction, stroke, and arterial revascularization procedures
  • For pediatric patients 10 to 17 years of age with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH)

Dosage & Administration

  • Adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more
  • Initiation of Rosuvastatin therapy with 5 mg once daily should be considered for Asian patients
  • Risk of skeletal muscle effects may be enhanced when used in combination with certain lipid-lowering therapies

Precautions & Warnings

  • Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy

  • Liver enzyme tests should be performed before and at 12 weeks following initiation of therapy and any elevation of dose

Overdose Effects

  • No specific treatment
  • Supportive measures instituted as required
  • Hemodialysis does not significantly enhance clearance of Rosustat
