Indications
- Adjunct to diet to reduce elevated total-C
- Patients with primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia
- Patients with hypertriglyceredemia
- Patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia
- Patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH)
- Pediatric patients 10 to 17 years of age with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH)
- Risk reduction of Myocardial Infarction (MI)
- Slowing the progression of atherosclerosis
Pharmacology
- Selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- Converts 3-hydroxy-3-methyl glutaryl coenzyme A to mevalonate
- Increases the number of hepatic LDL receptors
- Inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL
Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose range of 5-20 mg/day
- Maximum recommended dose is 20 mg/day
- Dosing should be individualized according to the recommended goal of therapy
- Adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more
- Initiation of therapy with 5 mg once daily for Asian patients
Interaction
- Cyclosporine increases Rosustat exposure
- Gemfibrosil combination should be avoided
- Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir increases Rosustat exposure
- Coumarin anticoagulants prolong international normalized ratio (INR)
- Concomitant lipid-lowering therapies may increase the risk of skeletal muscle effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to product components
- Liver disease
- Pregnant women and women who may become pregnant
- Nursing mothers

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Administered to women of childbearing age only when unlikely to conceive
- Patients should be informed of potential hazards
- Therapy should be discontinued immediately upon pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Risks may be increased with concurrent administration of other lipid-lowering therapies
- Therapy should be discontinued if markedly elevated creatinine kinase levels occur

- Symptomatic treatment and supportive measures are instituted as required
