Composition
- Calcium Folinate Hydrate BP 6.249 mg equivalent to Folinic Acid 5 mg
- Calcium Folinate Hydrate BP 18.746 mg equivalent to Folinic Acid 15 mg
Pharmacology
- Metabolite and active form of folic acid
- Involved as a cofactor for 1-carbon transfer reactions
- Impairs thymidylate synthesis in folic acid deficiency
- Potent antidote for hematopoietic and reticuloendothelial toxic effects of folic acid antagonists

Interaction
- Counteracts antiepileptic effect of phenobarbitone, phenytoin and primidone
- Caution with concurrent administration of fluoropyrimidine
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to calcium folinate or its components
- Pernicious anemia or other megaloblastic anemia with vitamin B12 deficiency
- Galactose intolerance or malabsorption syndrome

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
- Caution with administration to nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Use only with methotrexate or 5-FU under supervision of experienced clinician
- Prompt administration for inadvertent overdosage
- Avoid simultaneous use with folic acid antagonists
- Measures to ensure prompt methotrexate excretion in rescue therapy
Overdose Effects
- Excessive amounts may nullify the chemotherapeutic effect of folic acid antagonists
