Indications

  • Eye: Inflammatory conditions
  • Ear: Otitis externa
  • Nose: Inflammatory conditions

Pharmacology

  • Anti-inflammatory action
  • Bactericidal effect
  • Inhibition of protein synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • Drops:
    • Eye: 1 drop instilled every one or two hours
    • Ear: 2 or 3 drops every two or three hours
    • Nose: 2 or 3 drops two or three times daily
  • Eye Ointment: Thin application to the conjunctival sac

Contraindications

  • Viral, fungal, tuberculous or purulent conditions
  • Glaucoma or herpetic keratitis
  • Perforated ear drum

Side Effects

  • Acute sensitization to neomycin
  • Rise in intra-ocular pressure
  • Thinning of the cornea
  • Cataract

Pregnancy & Lactation

Not classified, caution in pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Avoid use in 'red eyes'
  • Regular review for raised intra-ocular pressure
  • Avoid unnecessary topical use of neomycin
