Indications
- Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia
- Treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
- Adjunct in the treatment of seizures

Pharmacology
- Exhibits anticonvulsive, sedative, muscle relaxing and anxiolytic effects
- Mediates actions through enhancement of GABAergic neurotransmission
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dosage for adults with seizure disorders not to exceed 1.5 mg/day
- Initial dosage for adults with panic disorder is 0.25 mg given in two divided doses
- Dosage adjustment for pediatric patients based on body weight
- Injection dosage for infants, children, and adults
Interaction
- No apparent alteration of phenytoin, carbamazepine or phenobarbital pharmacokinetics
- Effect on metabolism of other drugs not investigated
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
- Clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease
- Contraindicated in acute narrow angle glaucoma
Side Effects
- CNS depression, drowsiness, ataxia, behavior problems, abnormal eye movements, aphonia, coma, tremor, vertigo, confusion, depression, amnesia, hallucinations, increased libido, insomnia, psychosis, palpitations

- Potential for producing congenital malformations
- Evidence of anticonvulsant drugs acting as teratogens
- Administration only if benefits outweigh risks
- Possibility of drug passing into maternal milk
Precautions & Warnings
- May increase incidence or precipitate generalized tonic-clonic seizures
- Concomitant use with valproic acid may produce absence status
