Indications
- Treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail due to dermatophytes
- Indicated in Tinea Capitis
- Fungal infection of the skin caused by Trichophyton
- Microsporum and Epidermophyton
- Yeast infections of the skin caused by Candida
- Pityriasis versicolor due to Malassezia furfur
Pharmacology
- Inhibits biosynthesis of Ergosterol
- Inhibition of Squalene Epoxidase enzyme
- Results in fungal cell death
- Active against Tricophyton Mentagrophyte and Trichophyton Rubrum
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for fingernail onychomycosis: Terbinafine 250 mg once daily for 6 weeks
- Dosage for toenail onychomycosis: Terbinafine 250 mg once daily for 12 weeks
- Dosage for Body Weight <25 kg: 125 mg/day up to 6 weeks
- Dosage for Body Weight 25-35 kg: 187.5 mg/day up to 6 weeks
- Dosage for Body Weight >35 kg: 250 mg/day up to 6 weeks
- Terbinafine cream can be applied once or twice daily
- Terbinafine 1% Spray is applied once or twice daily
Interaction
- Inhibitor of the CYP450 2D6 isozyme
- Inhibits drugs metabolized by CYP450 2D6 isozyme
Contraindications
- Contra-indicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to terbinafine
