Description

- Expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells

Indications
- Treatment of anemia due to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in patients on dialysis and not on dialysis
- Treatment of anemia due to Zidovudine in HIV-infected patients
- Treatment of anemia due to the effects of concomitant myelosuppressive chemotherapy
- Reduction of allogeneic RBC transfusions in patients undergoing elective, noncardiac, nonvascular surgery
- Prevention of anemia of prematurity in infants with a birth weight of 750 to 1500 gm and gestational age of less than 34 weeks

Interaction
- Potentiated effect by simultaneous therapeutic administration of a haematinic agent such as ferrous sulphate when deficiency state exists
Contraindications
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Serious allergic reactions to Erythropoietin alfa
- Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA) following treatment with any erythropoietin
Side Effects
- Adverse reactions in treated patients
- Specific side effects for patients with CKD, Zidovudine-treated HIV-infected Patients, Cancer Patients on Chemotherapy, Surgery Patients, and Premature infants
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use in pregnancy if potential benefit outweighs potential risk to the fetus
- Not recommended for pregnant or lactating surgical patients participating in an autologous blood predonation program
- Caution in nursing women
