Indications
- Improves glycemic control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus
Composition
- 100 IU (equivalent to 3.50 mg) Insulin Aspart (rDNA) BP as 30% soluble Insulin Aspart and 70% protamine-crystallised Insulin Aspart per ml suspension
Description
- Sterile suspension of human insulin analog
- Contains 30% soluble Fiasp FlexTouch and 70% protamine-crystallised Fiasp FlexTouch
- Blood glucose lowering agent with early onset and intermediate duration of action
- Produced by recombinant DNA technology
Pharmacology
- Regulates glucose metabolism by binding to insulin receptors on muscle and fat cells
Dosage
- Individual dosage determined by physician
- Can be given in mono therapy or in combination with oral antidiabetic drugs
- Recommended starting dose for type 2 diabetes is 6 IU at breakfast and 6 IU at dinner
- Initial once daily dose is 12 IU at dinner, can increase to twice-daily if needed
- Dose adjustments can be made once a week until target HbA1c is reached
- Individual insulin requirement for type 1 diabetes is usually between 0.5 and 1.0 IU/kg/day
Administration
- Administer 5-10 minutes before meal
Interaction
- Certain drugs may reduce or increase Fiasp FlexTouch requirements
- Substances like oral anti-diabetic products, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and more may affect requirements
Contraindications
- Not to be used during episodes of hypoglycemia or in patients with hypersensitivity to Insulin Aspart or its excipients
Side Effects
- Hypoglycemia, allergic reactions, injection site reaction, lipodystrophy, pruritus, rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category B, no restrictions on treatment during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Blood glucose monitoring, cautious modification of regimens under medical supervision
Use in Special Populations
- Decreased dose may be necessary in case of renal or hepatic impairment
Overdose Effects
- Hypoglycemia may develop if too high doses are administered
- Mild hypoglycaemic episodes can be treated by oral administration of glucose or sugary products
- Severe hypoglycaemic episodes treated by glucagon (0.5 to 1 mg) and intravenous glucose
