Description
- Orally dissolving film
- Applies on top of the tongue
- Dissolves within 20 seconds

Pharmacology
- Potent, highly selective 5HT3 receptor-antagonist
- Mode of action in control of nausea and vomiting not fully known

Administration
- Application steps for oral soluble film
- Tear the pouch carefully
- Place the film on top of the tongue
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves
- Wash hands after taking the film
Interaction
- Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
- Clearance and half-life may be changed by inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse events: headache, constipation, diarrhea
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis, brochospasm, tachycardia
- Reports of flushing or warmth, hiccups, liver enzyme abnormalities
- No evidence of extrapyramidal reactions in PONV
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of carcinogenic effects in rat and mice studies
- Not mutagenic in standard tests for mutagenicity
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to fetus in animal studies
- Excreted in the breast milk of rats
- Caution advised during nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients sensitive to other 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Not a stimulant of gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
- May mask a progressive ileus and/or gastric distension
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment for impaired renal function same as general population
- Dosage adjustment for severe hepatic impairment
- Limited information on dosage for pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
- No dosage adjustment needed for patients over 65 years old
