Description
- Lizox is indicated for the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin and skin structure infection, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections.
Indications
- Nosocomial pneumonia
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Complicated skin and skin structure infection including diabetic foot infections
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections
Pharmacology
- Selective inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis
- Bacteriostatic against enterococci and staphylococci
- Bactericidal for the majority of streptococci strains
Dosage administration
- Dosage varies by type of infection
- Oral route with or without food
- Intravenous infusion over 30 to 120 minutes
- No dose adjustment necessary when switching from intravenous to oral administration
Interaction medication
- Reversible, nonselective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
- Potential interaction with adrenergic and serotonergic agents
Interaction food
- Patients advised to avoid large quantities of foods or beverages with high tyramine content while taking Lizox
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Linezolid or any other product components
- Contraindicated in patients taking MAO inhibitors
- Contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, carcinoid syndrome
- Contraindicated in patients taking sympathomimetic agents, vasopressive agents, dopaminergic agents, serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, serotonin 5-HT1 receptor agonists, meperidine, or buspirone
Side effects
- Most adverse events reported were mild to moderate
- Common adverse events include diarrhea, headache, and nausea
- Other adverse events include oral and vaginal moniliasis, hypertension, dyspepsia, and localized abdominal pain
Pregnancy lactation
- Available data on use in pregnant women
- Linezolid present in breast milk
- Benefits of breastfeeding should be considered
Precautions warnings
- Complete blood counts should be monitored weekly
- Ophthalmic evaluation recommended if visual impairment symptoms occur
- Not approved for catheter-related infections
- Monitor for potential increases in blood pressure
- Immediate medical evaluation for certain symptoms
Overdose effects
- No reported cases of overdose
- Symptomatic and supportive care advised
- Approximately 30% removed during 3 hours of hemodialysis

Reconstitution oral suspension
- Shake the bottle to loosen powder
- Add 75 ml of boiled and cooled water to the dry mixture
- Shake the suspension well before each use
- Store reconstituted suspension in a cool and dry place
Reconstitution intravenous administration
- Lizox IV Injection supplied in single-use, ready-to-use infusion bottles
- Administered by intravenous infusion over a period of 30 to 120 minutes
- Do not use infusion vials in series connections
