Indications
- Treatment of symptomatic anemia associated with chronic kidney disease in adult patients
Description
- First-in-class orally administered HIF-PH inhibitor
- Promotes erythropoiesis
- Increases endogenous production of erythropoietin
- Improves iron regulation
- Overcomes EPO-suppressive effects of inflammation on hemoglobin synthesis
- Downregulates hepcidin
Pharmacology
- Orally bioavailable
- Hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI)
- Promotes erythropoiesis
- Increases endogenous erythropoietin production
- Reduces expression of hepcidin
- Improves iron availability
- Boosts hemoglobin levels
- Induces coordinated erythropoiesis
- Maintains plasma erythropoietin levels
- Reduces dysregulation of iron metabolism
- Reduces cholesterol levels
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Taken three times per week
- Individualized dose to maintain target Hb levels of 10 to 12 g/dL

Interaction
- Potential drug interactions with phosphate binders and multivalent cation products

Precautions & Warnings
- Initiate with caution in patients with thrombotic vascular events risk factors
- Use with caution in patients with history of seizures
- Avoid in the presence of serious signs and symptoms of infection
- Avoid in patients with liver disorder
- Avoid initiation in pregnant women
Use in Special Populations
- Not indicated for use in children
- Not recommended for severe hepatic impairment
