Indications

Pharmacology
Bambuterol is a prodrug of terbutaline, a long-acting β2 adrenergic receptor agonist used in the treatment of asthma.
Dosage & Administration
- Children 2-5 years: 10 mg (10 ml syrup)
- Children 6-12 years: 10 mg (10 ml syrup), may increase to 20 mg
- Adult: Initial dose 10 mg, may increase to 20 mg after 1-2 weeks depending on clinical effect
Interaction
Succinylcholin, MAOIs, β2-blockers, corticosteroids, diuretics, muscle relaxants, sympathomimetic xanthine derivatives
Contraindications
Hepatic impairment, liver cirrhosis, severely impaired liver function

Pregnancy & Lactation
Caution recommended during first trimester of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Transient hypoglycemia reported in newborn pre-term infants after maternal β2 agonist treatment.
Precautions & Warnings
Dose should be reduced in patients with severely impaired renal function, genetic deficiencies of plasma cholinesterase, severe ischemic heart disease
Overdose Effects
Bambuterol overdosage has not been reported in humans. Symptoms may include headache, anxiety, tremor, nausea, tonic muscle cramps, palpitations, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias. Laboratory findings may include hyperglycemia and lactacidosis
