Description
- Combination of Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3

Composition
- 500 mg & 200 IU
- Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP (eggshell source) 1250 mg equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) BP 200 IU
- 600 mg & 400 IU
- Each film-coated tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP (eggshell source) 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) BP 400 IU
Pharmacology
- Calcium plays a vital role in bone, nerve cells, and muscle functioning
- Vitamin D3 aids in Calcium absorption
Indications
- Treatment of bone loss (osteoporosis)
- Weak bones (osteomalacia, osteopenia)
- Rickets
- Decreased activity of parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism)
- Latent tetany
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Post-menopausal osteoporosis
- Senile osteoporosis
- Drug-induced osteoporosis like Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, or Prednisolone
Dosage and administration
- Oral route of administration
- One tablet in the morning and one tablet at night, or as directed by the physician
- Use in children and adolescents should be directed by the physician
Interaction
- With medicine:
- Possible interaction with digoxin, antacids containing Calcium, aluminum or magnesium, other Calcium supplements, calcitriol, tetracycline, doxycycline, aminocycline, or oxytetracycline
- Consult physician when taking Calcium tablet with any of these drugs
- With food and others:
- Intestinal uptake of Calcium may be reduced by concomitant ingestion of certain foods such as spinach, milk, and milk products
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy requiring careful monitoring of serum Calcium level
Side effects
- Common:
- Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may cause gastrointestinal irritation and constipation
- Eggshell Calcium is safe for long-term use without causing gastrointestinal discomfort or constipation
- Rare:
- Kidney stone
- Hypercalcemia
- Alkalosis
- Loss of appetite
Pregnancy and lactation
- Use as directed by the physician during Pregnancy and Lactation
Precautions and warnings
- Discontinuation of the drug is required when hypercalcemia occurs
- Patients with a history of kidney stone formation should increase their fluid intake
Overdose effects
- Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, diarrhea, weakness, headache, irritability, or dizziness
