Indications
- Prophylactic treatment of bronchial asthma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis
- Alleviating complications of itching, pain, and tenderness associated with neurofibroma
- Symptomatic treatment of allergy such as hayfever and urticaria
Pharmacology
- Anti-allergic properties
- Antihistamine properties
- Anti-anaphylactic properties
- Sustained inhibitory effect on histamine reactions
- Effective in preventing asthma attacks
- Experimental investigations in asthmatic subjects
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 mg twice daily with food, may be increased to 2 mg in severe cases
- Children above 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with food
- Use in elderly: Same as adult dose or as advised by the physician
Interaction
- Potentiation of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohols
- Reversible fall in platelet count
Contraindications
- Reversible fall in platelet count observed with oral antidiabetic agents
- No evidence of teratogenic effect
- Recommendations for use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding cannot be given

Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Continuation of previous treatment for minimum of two weeks after starting Alafix
- Supplementation with specific antimicrobial therapy for intercurrent infection
- Impaired reactions during the first day of treatment
- Avoidance of alcoholic drinks
- Potentiation of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
