Indications

Pharmacology
Bambuterol is a long-acting β2 adrenergic receptor agonist used in the treatment of asthma. It predominantly stimulates β2 receptors, producing relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle, inhibition of spasmogens, inhibition of edema, and increased mucociliary clearance.
Dosage & Administration
- Children 2-5 years: 10 mg (10 ml syrup)
- Children 6-12 years: 10-20 mg (10-20 ml syrup)
- Adult: 10-20 mg (10-20 ml syrup)

Contraindications
- Hepatic impairment
- Liver cirrhosis

Pregnancy & Lactation
Caution is recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. Caution is also recommended if administered to breastfeeding patients. Transient hypoglycemia has been reported in newborn pre-term infants after maternal β2 agonist treatment.
Precautions & Warnings
- Dose reduction for severely impaired renal function patients
- Dose reduction for patients with genetic deficiencies of plasma cholinesterase
- Dose reduction for patients with severe ischemic heart disease
Overdose Effects
No reported bambuterol overdosage in humans. Symptoms may include headache, anxiety, tremor, nausea, muscle cramps, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, and lactacidosis.
