Indications

• Relieves dry cough
• Used for pre & post-operative cough sedation
• Effective for acute cough of any etiology
• Suitable for whooping cough
• Helps with cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections
• Useful in tracheitis, laryngitis, bronchitis

Pharmacology

• Butamirate Citrate acts directly on the brain's cough center
• Suppresses cough
• Safe and non-sedating
• Rapid and complete absorption after oral administration
• Protein-bound and plasma elimination half-life of about 13 hours
• Active metabolites have antitussive action

Dosage & Administration

• Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet: 2-3 tablets daily for adults
• Butamirate Citrate syrup: 15 ml 4 times daily for adults
• Dosage varies for children and adolescents

Interaction

Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

• Adverse reactions like rash, nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo in rare cases
• Resolved after dose reduction or treatment withdrawal
