Indications
- Maintenance of pregnancy in cases of threatened/recurrent abortion
- Luteal support during IUI and ART procedures IVF-ET
- Luteal support in cases of proven luteal phase insufficiency
- Post-menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
- Prevent endometrial hyperplasia where endogenous estrogen is present
- Progesterone challenge test in secondary amenorrhoea
- Cycle control along with estrogen therapy
- Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB)
- Premenstrual tension
- Endometriosis
- Oocyte donation programme
- Benign mastopathy
Pharmacology
- Contains micronised progesterone structurally and biologically identical to natural endogenous progesterone
- Micronisation increases the bioavailability of progesterone
- Maximal serum progesterone levels significantly increased when administered after meals
- Progesterone concentrations in endometrial and breast tissue attain high level
- Approximately 96%-99% of progesterone bound to serum proteins, primarily to serum albumin (50%-54%)
- Metabolized to pregnanediols and pregnanolones in the liver
- Glucuronide and sulfate conjugates of pregnanediol and pregnanolone excreted in bile and urine
- Metabolites may undergo enterohepatic circulation

- Usual recommended dose of Progesterone 100 mg/200 mg
- Oral or vaginal routes of administration
- Flexible dosage regimen depending on the indication and patient's requirements
- Specific dosages for different indications including maintenance of pregnancy, in-vitro fertilization, HRT, luteal support, luteal phase insufficiency, secondary amenorrhoea, premenstrual syndrome, and benign mastopathy
Interaction
- Ketoconazole inhibits the metabolism of progesterone

- Hypersensitivity

- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- Porphyria
- Cancers of uterus and genital organs
- Breast cancers
- History of stroke or blood clots
- Miscarriage and tissue left in the uterus
