Indications
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Decrease the risk of developing gastric ulcers
Pharmacology
- Immediate release Esomeprazole Magnesium layer
- Enteric-coated Naproxen core
- NSAID with analgesic & antipyretic properties
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
- Proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion
Dosage
- Relief of signs & symptoms
- Carefully consider potential benefits & risks
- Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration
- Different doses for different conditions and age groups
Administration
- Do not split, chew, crush or dissolve the tablet
- Take at least 30 minutes before meals
Interaction
- Concomitant use with NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive effect
- Increased risk of bleeding with warfarin
- Interference with absorption of drugs where gastric pH is important
- Effect on absorption with high-fat food
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any component
- History of allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
- Use during peri-operative period in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Side Effects
- Decrease in gastrointestinal side effects from Naproxen
- Lower risk of arterial thrombotic events compared to some NSAIDs
- Reported adverse events include gastrointestinal in nature, oedema, hypertension, cardiac failure, etc.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy
- Unknown excretion in human milk
- Impairment of female fertility
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use with other NSAIDs
- Use with low dose acetylsalicylic acid
- Minimize undesirable effects by using lowest effective dose
- Special caution in elderly people, patients with gastrointestinal and cardiovascular issues, and renal impairment
Use in Special Populations
- Caution in elderly patients
- Not recommended in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment
- Monitor closely in patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment
