Description
- SGLT-2 inhibitor for type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Reduces risk of cardiovascular death in type 2 diabetes mellitus with established cardiovascular disease
Dosage
- 10 mg once daily
- Morning administration
- With or without food
- May be increased to 25 mg once daily in tolerant patients
- Correction of volume depletion recommended before initiation in some patients
Interaction
- Increased urine volume with diuretics
- Increased risk of hypoglycemia with insulin or insulin secretagogues
- Urinary glucose tests not recommended
- Unreliable 1,5-AG assay in assessing glycemic control
Contraindications
- History of serious hypersensitivity reaction to Empagliflozin or any of its ingredients
- Severe renal impairment
- End-stage renal disease
- Dialysis

- Not initiated in patients with eGFR less than 45 ml/min/1.73 m²
- No dose adjustment needed in patients with eGFR greater than or equal to 45 ml/min/1.73 m²
