Indications

• Treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infection (cIAI)
• Treatment of complicated urinary tract infection (cUTI)
• Treatment of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP)
• Treatment of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)
• Treatment of bacteraemia associated with infections
• Treatment of infections due to aerobic Gram-negative organisms
• Treatment in adults and paediatric patients aged 3 months and older

Pharmacology

• Inhibits bacterial peptidoglycan cell wall synthesis
• Acts by forming a covalent adduct with enzymes
• Inhibits Ambler class A and class C β-lactamases
• Inhibits some class D enzymes
• Does not inhibit class B enzymes
• Stable to hydrolysis

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to active substances or excipients
• Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibacterial agents
• Severe hypersensitivity to other type of β-lactam antibacterial agents

Side Effects

• Severe allergic reactions
• Sudden swelling of lips, face, throat, or tongue
• Severe rash or other severe skin reactions
• Difficulty swallowing or breathing
• Diarrhoea that worsens or does not resolve
• Blood or mucus in stool

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Animal studies with ceftazidime
• Animal studies with avibactam
• Use during pregnancy if benefits outweigh risks
• Excretion in human milk
• Possible risk to newborns/infants

• No special storage conditions required
• Store in original package to protect from light

Use in Special Populations

• No dosage adjustment required in elderly patients
• No dosage adjustment required in patients with mild renal impairment
