Indications

Pharmacology

Interaction

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to nabumetone or its excipients
  • History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Contraindicated for peri-operative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting
  • Central Nervous System: Dizziness, headache, fatigue, insomnia
  • Dermatologic: Pruritus, rash
  • Special Senses: Tinnitus
  • Miscellaneous: Edema

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C
  • Use only if clearly needed
  • Not recommended during the third trimester
  • Not recommended for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Association with renal papillary necrosis and abnormal renal pathology in animals
  • Potential reduction in renal blood flow in patients with impaired renal function, heart failure, liver dysfunction, or taking diuretics
  • Recovery to pretreatment state upon discontinuation of NSAID therapy

Overdose Effects

  • Symptoms include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain
  • Rare occurrences of hypertension, acute renal failure, respiratory depression, and coma
  • No specific antidotes
  • Supportive care including emesis, activated charcoal, and osmotic cathartic
  • Reported overdoses of up to 25 grams without long-term sequelae
