Description
Rauto is a medication used to treat primary hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, dysbetalipoproteinemia, homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, and to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. It is also used to slow the progression of atherosclerosis and to lower total-C and LDL-C.
DosageAndAdministration
- Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia in Pediatric Patients (10 to 17 years of age): 5-20 mg/day
- Very High Cholesterol and High Risk of MI or Stroke: 40 mg once daily
- Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia: 20 mg once daily
- Dosage in Asian Patients: Initiation with 5 mg once daily
- Use with Cyclosporine, Lopinavir/Ritonavir or Atazanavir/Ritonavir: Dose limitations apply
- Concomitant Lipid-Lowering Therapy: Risk of skeletal muscle effects may be enhanced
- Dosage in Patients with Severe Renal Impairment: Start at 5 mg once daily, not to exceed 10 mg once daily
Interaction
- Cyclosporine: Increases Rauto exposure
- Gemfibrosil: Combination should be avoided
- Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir: Increases Rauto exposure
- Coumarin anticoagulants: Prolongs INR
- Concomitant lipid-lowering therapies: May increase the risk of skeletal muscle effects

PrecautionsAndWarnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Discontinue therapy if markedly elevated creatinine kinase levels occur or myopathy is diagnosed or suspected
- Discontinue therapy in patients with acute, serious conditions suggestive of myopathy
- Perform liver enzyme tests periodically
