Indications

  • treatment of inflammation

Pharmacology

  • inhibition of inflammatory response
  • edema inhibition
  • fibrin deposition inhibition
  • capillary dilation inhibition
  • leukocyte migration inhibition
  • scar formation inhibition

Dosage & Administration

  • instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac
  • 4 times daily
  • beginning 24 hours after surgery
  • continuing throughout the first 2 weeks
  • followed by 2 times daily for a week
  • taper based on the response
  • tapering as clinically indicated

Interaction

  • specific drug interaction studies not conducted

Contraindications

  • contraindicated in active viral diseases
  • contraindicated in mycobacterial infection
  • contraindicated in fungal diseases

  • elevated intraocular pressure
  • optic nerve damage
  • visual acuity and field defects
  • posterior subcapsular cataract formation
  • secondary ocular infection
  • perforation of the globe
  • corneal edema
  • hyperemia
  • eye pain
  • photophobia
  • posterior capsule opacification
  • anterior chamber cells
  • anterior chamber flare
  • conjunctival edema
  • blepharitis

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C
  • embryotoxic and teratogenic in rabbits
  • potential risk to the embryo or fetus
  • caution when administered to nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • prolonged use may result in glaucoma
  • posterior subcapsular cataract formation
  • caution with history of herpes simplex
  • fungal infections caution
  • do not touch dropper tip to any surface

Overdose Effects

  • overdosage will not ordinarily cause acute problems
