Description

  • Zoline is indicated for the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin and skin structure infection including diabetic foot infections, and uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections.
  • It is also indicated for vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections.
  • Linezolid, the active ingredient in Zoline, is a synthetic antibacterial agent belonging to the oxazolidinones class of antibiotics.
  • It has in vitro activity against Gram-positive aerobic bacteria, some Gram-positive anaerobic bacteria, and certain Gram-negative bacteria.
  • Linezolid selectively inhibits bacterial protein synthesis via a mechanism of action different from that of other antibacterial agents.
  • The recommended dosage for Zoline tablets and IV infusion varies based on the type of infection and the age of the patient.
  • Zoline exhibits drug interactions with medication, resulting in potential enhancement of the pressor response to certain agents.
  • It also has interactions with food, as patients are advised to avoid large quantities of foods or beverages with high tyramine content while taking Zoline.
  • Zoline is contraindicated for use in patients with known hypersensitivity to Linezolid or any of the other product components.
  • It should not be used in patients taking medication that inhibits monoamine oxidases A or B, or within two weeks of taking such medication.
  • Patients with uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis, carcinoid syndrome, or those taking certain sympathomimetic agents should also avoid Zoline.
  • The most common adverse events in patients treated with Zoline are diarrhea, headache, and nausea.
  • Linezolid use during pregnancy should be considered only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus, and its presence in breast milk should be taken into account for lactating women.
  • Precautions include monitoring complete blood counts, prompt ophthalmic evaluation in case of visual impairment symptoms, and careful consideration of a medical history for Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
  • No cases of Zoline overdose have been reported, and symptomatic and supportive care is advised for any potential overdose effects.
  • The therapeutic class of Zoline is macrolides, and it is available in both oral suspension and intravenous injection forms.
  • The storage conditions for Zoline formulations require room temperature storage away from light and moisture, and all medicines should be kept away from children.
