Description
- Azithron is indicated for infections in lower respiratory tract, upper respiratory tract, otitis media, skin and soft tissue
- Treatment of non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis
- Acid-stable and can be taken orally with no need of protection from gastric acids
- Greater absorption on an empty stomach
- High concentration in phagocytes, actively transported to the site of infection
- Half-life allows a large single dose to maintain bacteriostatic levels for several days
- Acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms
- Recommended dosage for adults and children
- Reconstitution procedure of suspension
- Interactions with antacids, carbamazepine, cyclosporin, digoxin, ergot derivatives, methylprednisolone, theophylline, warfarin, terfenadine
- Contraindications for patients hypersensitive to Azithromycin or any other macrolide antibiotic, co-administration of ergot derivatives, and hepatic diseases

Indication
- Lower respiratory tract infections including bronchitis and pneumonia

Pharmacology

Dosage
- Oral dosage for adults: 500 mg once daily for 3 days or 500 mg once on day 1, then 250 mg once on days 2-5 for 4 days
- Oral dosage for children based on body weight
- Azithromycin injection for IV infusion: Recommended dose for adult patients with community-acquired pneumonia
Administration
- Reconstitution procedure of suspension
- Azithromycin should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meal

Side Effects
