Description
- Naprofast is a non-selective NSAID indicated for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, acute gout, primary dysmenorrhea, and pain management.
- Naproxen exerts its clinical effects by blocking COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes leading to decreased prostaglandin synthesis.
- Dosage & Administration: Naproxen oral preparations should be taken with water preferably after meals. It is available in enteric-coated tablet, suspension, and gel forms. Dosage varies for adults and children based on indications.
- Interaction: Interacts with ACE inhibitors, antacids, aspirin, diuretics, methotrexate, warfarin, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI).
- Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Naproxen, asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
- Side Effects: Gastrointestinal, central nervous system, dermatological, cardiovascular, visual disturbances, and hearing disturbances. Pregnancy & Lactation: May have adverse effects on the fetus and small amounts excreted in breast milk.
