Indications

  • Gastric reflux
  • Heartburn
  • Indigestion
  • Flatulence associated with gastric reflux
  • Heartburn of pregnancy
  • Epigastric distress

Mode of Action

  • Neutralizing excess stomach acid
  • Forming a protective barrier over stomach contents
  • Rapid reaction with gastric acid
  • Formation of Alginic Acid gel

Pharmacology

  • Combination of two antacids
  • Composition of Calcium carbonate, Sodium bicarbonate, and Sodium alginate

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended adult dosage: 10-20 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
  • Chewable tablet recommended dosage for adults and children 12 years and over: 2-4 tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day
  • Dosage not recommended for children under 6 years
  • No dosage modifications for elderly
  • Hepatic impairment: No dose modification necessary
  • Renal insufficiency: Caution if highly restricted salt diet is necessary

Interaction

Consider a time-interval of 2 hours between Gaviflux intake and administration of other medicinal products

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients

  • Constipation
  • Flatulence
  • Stomach cramp
  • Belching
  • Sensation of swelling (in case of overdose)

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Can be used during pregnancy if clinically needed
  • No effects shown in breastfed newborns/infants of treated mothers
  • No negative effect on parental or offspring fertility or reproduction

Precautions & Warnings

  • High in sodium
  • Sodium content of 254.5 mg per 20 ml dose
  • Care needed when treating patients with hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium containing renal calculi
  • Not recommended for children younger than 12 years of age, except on medical advice
  • Aspartame content: Not to be given to patients with phenylketonuria
  • Masking of symptoms of other serious underlying medical conditions
  • Not to be used in patients with impaired renal function/insufficiency and with hypophosphatemia
  • Potential allergic reactions

Overdose Effects

Symptomatic treatment should be given. Patient may notice abdominal distension
