Description
Orally dissolving film designed to be applied on top of the tongue where it will dissolve within 20 seconds and then is swallowed with saliva. Oral soluble film does not require water to aid dissolution or swallowing. The active ingredient is Emetus base, the racemic form of Emetus, and a selective blocking agent of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type.

Pharmacological Action

Dosage Recommendations
- Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting:
- Tablet/orodispersible tablet: Three 0.15 mg/kg doses, up to a maximum of 16 mg per dose.
- Injection: Infused intravenously over 15 minutes.
- Radiotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting:
- Initial Dose: 8 mg orally 1 to 2 hours before radiotherapy. Post Radiotherapy: 8 mg orally every 8 hours for up to 5 days after a course of treatment.
- Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting:
- 16 mg given as two 8 mg tablets
- 4 mg injection
- Pediatrics:
- Injection: 4 mg
- Oral Solution: 8 mg
- Adolescents: 30 ml (24 mg) Oral Solution administered 30 minutes before start of emetogenic chemotherapy.
Administration Instructions
- Tear the pouch carefully along with the edge tear mark
- Put the oral soluble film on top of the tongue where it will dissolve within 20 seconds
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves
- Wash hands after administration
Interaction
Emetus itself does not appear to induce or inhibit the cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzyme system of the liver, but inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes may change the clearance and half-life of Emetus.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine

Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus in animal studies
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Excreted in the breast milk of rats
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported with other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Not a stimulant of gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
Special Populations
- Same dosage for patients with impaired renal function
- Single maximal daily dose of 8 mg recommended for severe hepatic impairment
- Limited information for pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
- No dosage adjustment needed for patients over 65 years
