Indications

• Allergic rhino conjunctivitis (seasonal and perennial)
• Urticaria
• Hay fever relief

Pharmacology

• Potent histamine antagonist
• Non-sedating
• High affinity to H1 receptor
• Excellent safety profile
• Favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics
• Non-metabolized to be active
• Excreted by feces and urine

Dosage & Administration

• Adults & adolescents (12 years of age and over): 20 mg tablet once daily for symptomatic relief
• Children between 6 to 11 years: 10 mg mouth dissolving tablet once daily
• Children between 2 to 11 years: 4 ml once daily

Interaction

• Increased concentration with ketoconazole, erythromycin, cyclosporine or diltiazem
• No potentiation of CNS effects with lorazepam
• Similar psychomotor performance to alcohol and placebo

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Limited data in pregnant women
• Preferable to avoid during pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

• Rarely experience drowsiness
• No difference in efficacy or safety for elderly patients
• No dosage adjustment for severe renal impairment
• Not metabolized in human
• Not established efficacy and safety in children under 2 years of age

Overdose Effects

• Increased frequency of adverse events
• Most frequently reported adverse reactions: dizziness, headache, nausea
• No serious adverse events and no significant prolongation in QTc interval
