Description
- Calcium and Vitamin D3 supplement for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, hypoparathyroidism, and disorders of osteogenesis.

Composition
- Each tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Each effervescent tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Mode of Action
- Adequate Calcium in blood is vital to bodily functions and helpful for prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis and fractures
- Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption and bone formation
- Coral Calcium sourced from coral origin ensures better absorption
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by physician
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water and drink orally, stirring the solution with a spoon before drinking
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
- Hypercalcemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D
- Bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride used concomitantly may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of Lifecal-D
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the components
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy
Side Effects
- GI tract irritation
- Constipation
- Hypercalcemia with large doses in chronic renal failure patients
- Possible allergic reactions, irregular heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dry mouth, drowsiness
- Skin rash with vitamin D supplements
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Avoid overdoses as it may relate to adverse effects on the developing fetus
- No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor serum calcium levels and renal function during long-term treatment
- Caution in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Use with caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Consider soft tissue calcification in patients with severe renal insufficiency
- Use with caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis
- Consider vitamin D dose when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
Overdose Effects
- Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia leading to various symptoms
- Treatment includes discontinuation of calcium and other related treatments, stomach emptying, rehydration, and close monitoring of serum electrolytes and renal function
