Indications
- Treatment of Salviron deficiency

Pharmacology
- Therapeutic class of Iron Sucrose is haematinic
- Aqueous complex of Polynuclear Iron (III) Hydroxide in Sucrose
- Contains approximately 30% Sucrose w/v
- Has a pH of 10.5-11.1
- Dissociates into Iron and Sucrose by the reticuloendothelial system
- Iron is transferred to a pool of Iron in the liver and bone marrow
- Ferritin binds and sequesters Iron in a nontoxic form
- Iron binds to plasma transferrin for transport to tissues
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 5-10 ml Iron Sucrose Injection once to three times a week
- Pediatric dosage: Not to exceed 0.15 ml Iron Sucrose Injection per kg body weight
Administration
- Can be administered by intravenous injection or infusion
- Intravenous injection rate: 1 ml Iron Sucrose Injection per minute
- Intravenous infusion should be in a dilution of 1 ml Iron Sucrose Injection in max. 20 ml 0.9% w/v Sodium Chloride
- Test dose recommended for new patients
Interaction
- Not studied for drug-drug interactions
- Should not be administered concomitantly with oral iron preparations
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with evidence of Iron overload
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Iron Sucrose
- Contraindicated in patients with anaemia not caused by Iron deficiency
- Contraindicated in patients with history of allergic disorders, liver disease, and infections

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised for patients with evidence of tissue Salviron overload
- Periodic monitoring of hematologic and haematinic parameters required
- Caution advised for hypersensitivity reactions and hypotension
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients not established
- No overall differences in safety observed between elderly and younger subjects
Overdose Effects
Dosages in excess of needs may lead to accumulation in storage sites leading to hemosiderosis
