Indications

  • Gastric reflux
  • Heartburn
  • Indigestion
  • Flatulence associated with gastric reflux
  • Heartburn of pregnancy
  • Epigastric distress
  • Retrosternal distress

Pharmacology

  • Combination of antacids and alginate
  • Neutralizes excess stomach acid
  • Forms protective barrier over stomach contents

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage: 10-20 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to 4 times a day
  • Child (6-12 years) dosage: 5-10 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to 4 times a day
  • Chewable tablet dosage for adults and children over 12 years
  • No recommended dosage for children under 6 years
  • No dose modifications for the elderly
  • No dose modifications for hepatic impairment
  • Caution for renal insufficiency if highly restricted salt diet is necessary

Interaction

  • Consider 2-hour time interval between Gavisilk intake and other medicinal products
  • Interaction with Tetracyclines, Digoxine, Fluoroquinolone, Iron salt, Ketoconazole, Neuroleptics, Thyroid Hormones, Penicillamine, beta-blockers, Glucocorticoid, Chloroquine, Biphosphonates, and Estramustine

Contraindications

  • Known or suspected hypersensitivity to active ingredients or excipients

  • Constipation

  • Potential sensation of swelling if overdose

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Safe for use during pregnancy
  • No effects shown in breastfed newborns/infants
  • No negative effect on fertility

Precautions & Warnings

  • High sodium content (254.5 mg) in 20 ml dose
  • Care needed in treating hypercalcaemia and renal calculi patients
  • Treatment not generally recommended for children under 12 years except on medical advice
